What Brings on Dry Skin?

Dry skin can happen at any time of the year. It may be brought on by harsh weather conditions, such as intense heat or cold, or excessive exposure to sun or wind. It may be the result of living or working in a heated indoor environment that’s overly dry. Swimming in chlorinated water can also dry out your skin; so can using harsh soaps or detergents. Also, dry skin develop in older people because oil glands slow with age. All of these factors can contribute to pulling moisture from the skin, drying it out, and causing it to feel tight and rough. Dry skin may also become itchy. Scratching itchy, dry skin can cause further irritation, resulting in redness or deep cuts.

What Does it Look Like?

Depending on the severity, dry skin appears in several different ways.

Flaky

Most frequently seen type of dry skin, where skin feels dry, tight, and easily flakes away.

Rough Patches
Rough callous like area on the elbows, knees, or feet.

Deep Cracks or Fissures

Occuring on fingertips and heels, the skin dries out so much that it splits. Sometimes the skin split so deeply that it becomes painful.

What Can I Do?

If you need relief from rough, dry skin, you might require a heavy-duty moisturizer---such as Ammonium Lactate. The Ammonium Lactate family of moisturizing cream and lotion contains a special formulation of 12% lactic acid neutralized with ammonium hydroxide. Lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid, is a naturally occurring humectant for the skin. It enables the skin to retain moisture better.

And because Ammonium Lactate moisturizers contain no fragrance, they reduce the potential for skin irritation. This Ammonium Lactate product contains 1% pramoxine HCL, which temporarily relieves the itchiness that can accompany dry skin or other minor skin irritations.

For the best results, apply to skin twice a day. Make sure you use it externally only. Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and mucus membranes. Do not apply to open wounds. If irritation or sensitivity occurs, discontinue use. Keep this product out of the reach of children.
